Michael Frey Fair Lakes VA Obituary, Death:- It is with profound sadness that the Fairfax County Animal Shelter announces the passing of Michael R. Frey over the past weekend.
Michael’s name is widely recognized throughout the Fairfax community, not only from social media posts and the signage at the Fairfax Campus but also from his tireless advocacy for animal welfare over many decades.
Michael dedicated himself to the Friends of the Fairfax County Animal Shelter as a board member since 2015. His commitment to animals extended far beyond advisory roles.
During his tenure as Sully District Supervisor from 1991 to 2015, Michael worked relentlessly to ensure that the county’s animal shelter received the funding, support, and resources necessary to provide proper care for all creatures, big and small.
His leadership was instrumental in championing the renovation of the West Ox Road Shelter, which was later renamed in his honor in March 2017 as a lasting testament to his unwavering dedication.
Additionally, Michael supported the bond and construction of the Lorton Shelter, investments that continue to strengthen the community’s ability to care for its animals today.
A lifelong animal lover, Michael personally welcomed thirteen animals into his home, including four dogs, four cats, and five guinea pigs—all of whom were adopted from Fairfax County Animal Services. Michael often expressed his pride in the strides the shelter had made in animal care and the honor he felt in contributing to its success.
Michael Frey’s legacy will be remembered not only for his professional accomplishments but for the joy, compassion, and kindness he shared with both humans and animals alike. His impact on the community and the lives of countless animals will endure, and he will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
